Unique Way to Pass On Silver to Your Children
(by Rhonda Burns, Florida)
Years ago, my grandfather gave me many of the old coins he had collected throughout his life. I'll never forget some of the stories he told about the coins he had saved as he patiently fingered through them. I put them away and scarcely thought about them until long after I was married.
When my son lost his first tooth, I was getting ready to see if I had 'tooth fairy' change when I remembered those old coins. I dug them out and spent a wonderful afternoon reliving the memory of that long ago time spent with my grandfather.
That night, the tooth fairy left a real silver dollar under my son's pillow with a note attached about how she had come to possess it and how she had been waiting for just the right time to pass in on to the great-grandson of the man who had once owned it. The note also explained how the coin was precious for so many reasons and should not be spent or passed on until my son was an adult. And she even left a federal reserve note for him to spend right away if he chose.
My grandfather's collection has now been lovingly passed down to the next generation, complete with stories. As these coins grow more precious in value, so do the memories.
It's very easy to find beautiful silver coins to give as gifts now. I recently purchased a beautifully engraved silver coin to give as a wedding gift, as well as a Christmas gift I can't wait to give to my son.
There are even coins that say Happy Retirement or Happy Graduation. Some of them are works of art!
It's a wonderful way to give value in your gifts to someone you love.
